The girls basketball team is set to play the Payson Lions on January 16th, at 5:15 p.m. They are coming off their first region game of the season, a tough home loss to Wasatch 44-29. Falling to 2-11, the Thunderbirds are looking to pick up their first region win of the season. With only 8 games yet to play, every game has major implications for the Thunderbirds hopes of a playoff run.
The Payson Lions are ranked 52nd in Utah, with a 4-9 record. Led by senior shooting guard Emmy Hales, the Lions averaged 42.8 points scored a game, with 15 of them coming from Emmy. Backed by junior point guard Makinley Renzello and senior Guard Halle Anderson, the Payson Lions backcourt is looking dangerous to deal with.
As for the Thunderbirds, the team is ranked 72nd in Utah, averaging 41.1 points a game. Tasi Galeai leads the team as a sophomore, averaging 10 points a game, backed by Cumorah Tupola at 8.5 and Stella Madsen at 7.5 points a game. Important points of focus for the team are playing better transition defense, and making the simple play.
