Timpview Basketball took down Orem 72-36 at Orem High on Friday (Jan. 9) in a very one sided rivalry game. Timpview now extends their record to 13-1 and leaves Orem at 9-7.
At the start it was a tight game, but once the T-Birds got ahead, there was little that could be done to stop them. The combined offensive and defensive efforts stunned Orem and left them unrecoverable. Timpview started strong and Orem stuck with them for the first quarter, but scoring streaks and defensive stops propelled Timpview to a 24 point lead at halftime. From then on, it wasn’t even a contest.
Dean Rueckert and Will Openshaw were the stars for Timpview, contributing 20 and 21 points respectively. Not only did their offensive success lead to a dominant win, but the defensive possessions were what debilitated the Tigers. They held Senior guard Aisa Galea’i to only 1 point that was scored late in the fourth quarter.
Timpview now enjoys the sweet sweet victory against a bitter rival, especially one that doubled their score and ended up being more of a deficit than their game against Timpanogos, which was a 30 point win.
The T-Birds now look to start region play and keep the momentum that has been carried throughout the season.
