The boys tennis team’s season is coming up in just a couple months. Tryouts for the team will be early March. Coming off of a state championship during the 24-25 season, the team looks to repeat. Seniors Ryan Austin and Rowan Holiday, and Junior DJ Gunnell look to lead the team as returning players. Varsity tennis teams will now be extended to 10 players, a new development to UHSAA tennis. This extends the singles spots to four players and three doubles teams. High Caliber teams like Timpview will now need to make sure they have depth throughout the varsity team, as they can’t just play 7 varsity guys.
Last year the team finished 22-0 on the season, where not a single player across jv and varsity had a losing record. There is a strong focus on developing talented freshmen and sophomores, as they may be bumped up to varsity this year. Not only does the team have a talented roster, but they have a great culture. Focusing on team chemistry, fundamentals, and consistency are what makes the T-birds a winning team.
Exciting matchups between the Orem Tigers and Lone Peak Wolves will be must-see matches across play. With high expectations, each match will provide an opportunity for growth, whether through learning from a close loss or building confidence through strong performances. Overall, the season is expected to challenge players while helping develop both on and off the court.
