Boys basketball is having one of their best seasons in team history, and are looking great after one game of region play.
The Thunderbirds are playing well, and are arguably the best team in the state of Utah. Timpview stands at an astounding 14-1, with their one loss coming from a top ranked Redondo Union (California) at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada. Other than that, the season has been pretty smooth for the Thunderbirds.
Biggest Wins
@ Bingham High School (75-58)
American Fork (62-60)
Santa Margarita (Tarkanian) (61-59)
@ Orem High (72-36)
Losses
Redondo Union (Tarkanian) (70-56)
Games to Watch
@ Layton Christian Academy (1/27)
Layton Christian is another top ranked team in the state. This game was scheduled on Timpviews Bye week, giving them one of the toughest teams on a week that was originally for rest. Layton Christian is full of talent and size, and will be a good test for Timpview.
@ Pleasant Grove High (1/30)
Arguably two of the Thunderbird’s toughest games for the remainder of the season will come in a 3 day span, as they will play Pleasant Grove just days after Layton Christian. Pleasant Grove is a very sound basketball team, with lots of young talent including Junior duo Brennan Blackett and Preston White. Blackett currently leads the team in scoring with 13.6 per game, while Preston leads the team in assists with 4.6 per game. Timpview should be able to handle the Vikings, but it’s definitely not a throw away game.
VS Orem High
Even though Timpview’s first matchup with Orem was a complete blowout, their rivalry against is always a fun game to watch. I believe Orem will come with more fire the second time around, after being embarrassed 72-36 at home in the first matchup. Orem is also full of talent, mostly coming from Senior Simeon Sugaturaga and Sophomore Troy Kaufusi.
Overall, Timpview should be able to handle region play pretty easily, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them play the remainder of the season undefeated. We are excited to cheer on and support our Basketball team and continue to hope for their success.
