After a phenomenal regular season, Timpview Boys Basketball enters the 2026 5A State Playoffs as the #1 seed.

Timpview achieved a 21-2 regular season record, with their only two losses coming to Redondo Union (California) and Layton Christian Academy. Other than that, the Thunderbirds had a very smooth season, with 19 of their 21 wins coming by more than 10 points. Another big highlight from this season was Timpview going undefeated 8-0 in region, defeating Springville High School 84-57 for the Region Championship this last Friday (February 13th).

The day after, (February 14th) the State Playoff Bracket was released. Timpview was awarded the 1st seed, thanks to their great win percentage and strong strength of schedule.

Leading Timpview to this region championship were Seniors Dean Rueckert (20.4 PPG) and Will Openshaw (13.7 PPG). Dean also led the team in steals with 1.5 per game, while Will led in rebounding with 6.7 Per Game. Both players have signed to continue their basketball careers at Brigham Young University.

Timpview’s first post season game will be this Friday, February 20th, at home. They will play the winner of Hillcrest vs Alta, who are the 16 and 17 seeds in the bracket. A win on Friday will move them to the quarterfinal round at the University of Utah, where they will likely face the Bountiful Redhawks.
