This Teacher Feature is the great English teacher Kasey Cannon.
Q: What made you want to teach?
A: When I was a junior, my parents got divorced, and my parents told me we weren’t allowed to talk about it to anyone. We had to keep it secret. So obviously, that left me with a lot of difficult feelings to sort through on my own. I remember writing a personal narrative about some of those feelings in my Junior English class and realizing that words are so powerful. They are healing. They are truth. And sharing them is powerful. I wanted to share that with others.
Q: What’s your favorite part of teaching?
A: The students. They crack me up and I love hearing their thoughts on challenging topics.
Q: What college did you attend?
A: BYU for my undergrad and UT Texas at Tyler for my Masters.
Q: Why did you choose your topic to teach?
A: See answer to number 1.
Q: What is something you want the students to know about you?
A: I care about them, and I know that they can be excellent. So when I hold them to a higher standard, it’s because I know that they are capable.
Q: What’s one or some of your hobbies?
A: I love canyoneering in Southern Utah?
Q: How long have you taught?
A: This is my 13th year of teaching.
