Fresh off a 3 day trip to St George, the Marching Band doesn’t sleep. While winds focus on their concert bands, colorguard and percussion are left with nowhere to go.
Fortunately for them, Winterguard and Provo City Indoor Percussion were created to save their poor unfortunate souls.
These programs combine students from Timpview and Provo High into a singular group that spends November through April putting on a beautiful indoor marching band show without any of the winds. (Who needs them anyways??)
Provo City Indoor Percussion (or PCIP) is hosted at Provo High in the band room and gym. They’re looking for people who are interested in playing snare, bass, quads, cymbals, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, synthesizer, drumset, electric guitar, or bass guitar. There is also a slot for a visual soloist this year. Because of the nature of this being a dual school program, it’s a highly competitive program, so preparation beforehand is key, though no previous percussion experience is required and everyone from grades 9-12 are welcome. Clinics are November 10th and 11th from 6-9 PM with auditions on November 13th from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. The interest form and audition packet can be found on the flyer. The theme of their show this year is The Keys That Bind, it follows the story of a tortured musician who accidentally summons the ghosts of past musicians who became obsessed with their music to the point they ended up trapped in their piano.
For our colorguard members, Timpview hosts Winterguard. A similar concept to PCIP, they perform an indoor performance with solely colorguard, combining elements of dance with equipment like flags, rifles, sabers, and more. A far less competitive program than PCIP, it is open to everyone from grades 7-12, regardless of previous experience. Clinics are November 19, 21, and 24 from 2:30 – 4:30 PM. The season officially starts on December 1st with a rehearsal at 4:30 PM and a parent meeting at 7:00 PM. The theme has not yet been announced, but it will be at clinics, so be sure to go if you’re interested.
While participating in the marching arts may seem lame, it’s a really amazing experience. It’s a place where you can meet some of your best friends, learn some new skills, and put on a beautiful show that you’re really proud of.
