This winter, Timpview Theatre will be performing Almost, Maine, written by John Cariani. This approximately 2 hour production is a straight play, offering a contrast from the usual musicals that are performed.
Set in a fictional town in northern Maine called “Almost”, the characters experience a magical night under the northern lights (“Almost, Maine” Study Guide). Unlike other plays which typically have one continuous plot, Almost, Maine consists of nine different vignettes, each a separate story of unlikely second-chance love.
“I have always adored this script, and knew that it would be a great production here at Timpview! It was also the style of show that allowed a lot more freedom and flexibility when it came to casting, technical needs, rehearsals, etc. Transitioning from doing two shows a year to three was daunting, but Almost Maine was the perfect script to choose. It is structured in vignettes which means an actor is only on stage for their 10-15 minute scene, and we do not see them again.” Kennedy Napierski expressed when asked why she chose Almost, Maine as the winter production.

Vignette #1 (Prologue): Pete and Ginette, a young couple, struggle to feel “close”. While she tries to draw him closer, he pushes her away.
Vignette #2 (Her Heart): East looks outside to find Glory camped out in his front yard, hoping to see the northern lights and holding a very special item: her heart.
Vignette #3 (Sad and Glad): Jimmy runs into his ex, Sandrine, only to learn that she is getting married. Sandrine has clearly moved on, but Jimmy struggles to let go of past feelings.
Vignette #4 (This Hurts): While doing laundry, Marvalyn accidentally hits Steve with the ironing board. To her surprise, he can’t feel pain.
Vignette #5 (Getting It Back): After an eleven-year relationship, Gayle decides she wants to give back all the love Lendall gave to her, and she wants all the love she gave him returned back to her.
Vignette #6 (They Fell): Two friends with unspoken feelings toward each other start falling for each other – literally.
Vignette #7 (Where It Went): While looking for a missing shoe, Marci confesses that she is upset at her husband, Phil, for forgetting their wedding anniversary.
Vignette #8 (Story of Hope): Several years after being proposed to (and not giving an answer), Hope goes looking for her old boyfriend, Daniel. However, when they finally meet up, she does recognize him.
Vignette #9 (Seeing the Thing): Dave and Rhonda have been friends for years. But when Dave finally confesses his feelings to her, Rhonda can’t comprehend that any man would ever be interested in her.

Auditions are open to anyone who is interested, and will take place on Tuesday, December 16th after school. You will need to prepare a 60-90 second monologue, as well as fill out a form, and choose an audition time on the sign-up sheet, both of which are posted outside the drama room (W-147).
