Timpview XC strides into the season

Timpview+XC+strides+into+the+season

Timpview cross country is starting their season with high hopes. The gap that last year’s graduates left has been filled by new freshman hopefuls who are looking to make their mark.

At their last meet in Payson, the Boys and Girls Varsity teams both performed very well, placing 1st and 2nd respectively, setting new personal records.

The Boys JV team winded the opposition with a score of 17 (a perfect score being 15), with junior Jonathon Jensen leading the way with a time of 17:26. This year the JV Boys team has gained much speed, with many runners racing 18-minute 5ks. Many people are considering the JV Boys as national contenders among their fellow Junior Varsity teams.

“I ran pretty fast, we got 7 out of 10 in the top 10 for Timpview–that was pretty good.” Jensen happily noted.

The Girls JV team, led by sophomore Elizibeth Thompson, also performed well, beating out Provo for second place with an impressive score of 53.

It was also a good race for the Varsity Girls, placing second with a score of 34 with senior Madelyn Boulton leading Timpview.

The Varsity Boys, led by senior Calvin Boyce, were also almost uncontested in their race, getting first with 31 points.

It hasn’t been all fun and games however, as some injuries have set back the team. Junior Jeffrey Armstrong would’ve been a top racer for Boys Varsity, but unfortunately bruised his tibia in a collision with a larger guy while playing basketball, and is now out for most of the season.

On the injury, Armstrong said, “They [the team] don’t really like that I was injured, they’re kinda pissed. It’s frustrating to be injured, it’s tough, especially on you mentally.”

Injuries have been a recurring theme for Armstrong, but he has stated that he is “trying to not do stupid things”. The team is hoping he recovers quickly and that they only get better from here on.
