Cheer Tryouts: Here’s What You Need to Know

This year’s cheerleading tryouts are on March 22, 2024. On average, around 65 people try out each year, and only 35-45 are selected for the team. Team coach Zoë Hale is a Timpview cheer alumni herself and has been the coach for five years. Since her start in 2018, she has “been able to build something [she] can be proud of.”

2023-2024 team

Tryouts are very competitive; Hale and the judges look for the best of the best. Those who are willing to do anything and be team players are always noticed, a future cheerleader must be positive and friendly to their peers. When it comes to technique, show the judges your hardest tumbling. Having the details down is very important when it comes to tumbling, the judges know you can go through the motions, but show them that you can pay attention to the details of things like jumping placement; having the “easy things” down makes all the difference. Coach Hale advises anyone trying out to be very sharp with what they do. Remember to smile and show your school spirit!

Current member of the cheer team, Quincey Perry, encourages you to “Remember why you’re doing it, which is for fun, it will help you a lot in progressing. Have fun and get excited.”
