To kick off the Lady T-Birds basketball season, the Thunderbirds are set to play a non Conference game vs Westlake on Tuesday, November 18 @ 5:15 pm in the Thunderdome.
Facing a very competitive 6A Westlake team, the matchup is bound to be competitive. Last year the Westlake Thunder went 18-7 overall for the season, winning region three at 8-2, and getting bounced by the Davis Darts in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The one time the team met last year, Timpview defeated the Westlake 48-44, with Lina Ballin dropping a game high of 22 points, helped by Livia Eyre with 16. The Westlake team is very experienced, having 6 returning seniors joining the roster. Coached by an experienced Charlotte Macfarlane, the team will be a force to be reckoned with.
Although the Thunderbirds lost 4 key senior starters: Grace Erbstoesser, Malia Latu, Lina Ballin, and Claire Burningham, the young team has lots of talent. Star sophomore Tasi Galea’i looks to make her impact known throughout the state as one of the best SG’s in the whole state. Alongside Tasi, sophomore Zion Lloyd and junior Bella Ballin add to the talented roster of the Thunderbirds. Alongside player changes this year, Ted Ballin, former assistant coach for the team, has taken the job of being the head coach for the Thunderbirds.
Westlake has a chip on their shoulder, wanting a get back at Timpview for last year’s game, while the Thunderbirds must defend home court against the very experienced Westlake team. Make sure to show up on the 18th to come support the girls basketball team!.
