As the genre of rage rap has developed over the years, the term “underground rap” has adopted an adapted sound similar to rage. This consists of thick 808’s heavy synth and highly produced melodies mixed with auto-tuned rappers talking about money, drugs and girls. A lot of people have gotten really into the sound, and while many of the beats are experimental and over produced, the art of melodies and songwriting has been lost.
In late 2025 the artist Slayr released his album Half Blood. Half Blood was his first album to really push him into the streaming world, and on first listen there’s something that sets him apart from the majority of other artists known as “underground rappers.” While many underground songs are heavily aggressive and rely on minor chords, Slayr bases his songs on major chord melodies and upbeat bouncier synths. Although some of his songs do have aggressive beats and vocals, he adds riffs from electric guitars and more acoustic, rock sounding drums which demonstrates a metal influence on his music. He incorporates musical styles from genres like hyper-pop and EDM that heavily separates himself from other major artists. Slayr takes more time to solidify catchy melodies and choruses that make some of his songs hardly rap at all. Although he still uses autotune on his voice, he mixes it flawlessly to flow himself over his self produced music.
In March 2026 he released the deluxe version of his albums and titled it “Bloodluxe.” Usually, when artists release a deluxe they just add a couple more songs. However, Slayr released another album’s worth of music with 10 more tracks. The new songs lean even farther towards an EDM and rock influence with complicated production, smooth transitions and heavenly melodies. Some fans of underground rap consider his music corny, but it’s just because they’re not ready for the futuristic production and melodies Slayr has developed.
While most underground artists and rappers have found a sound and stuck with it, Slayr seems like he has the most potential to develop and grow as an artist- this is obvious from the difference in his album and its deluxe version. He is continuing to grow significantly as an artist, developing a sound and gaining public traction. Everyone who has found his music is definitely excited and intrigued to what he will do and release next.
