Returning state volleyball champs start state tournament

Returning+state+volleyball+champs+start+state+tournament

Timpview girls volleyball is about to jump into playoffs as the returning champs. After losing multiple key players from the championship team last year and a coaching change, Timpiew Volleyball had to start from the beginning by rebuilding a competing team. According to MaxPreps, Timpview is 15-15 overall and went 5-6 in region. “ Definitely a big change from beginning of the season tournaments and playing harder teams later was definitely tough but playing other hard teams was cool to see how well we’d do against them.” says star Sophomore Outside Hitter, Livia Eyre. Eyre was one of the returning players from last year’s Championship team and she has definitely taken a leadership role throughout the big team changes and has become a very dominant Outside Hitter for the T-Birds.” It was really hard because I only knew 2 people staying and [the team had] little varsity experience so trying to find leadership was hard. But we’ve done really well with that.” Eyre goes on to say about the changes over the offseason. There have been many girls who have been able to step up and take leadership roles during the changes and rebuilding of the team, and some of them are very young. This year’s team is made up of a lot of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. With only one senior, there have been a lot of players who have taken leadership authority due to a shortage of seniority and experience. With it now being playoffs, the young team is going to be put to the test against very strong and experienced teams like Maple Mountain and Salem Hills. Eyre says that the key to winning is playing as a team, and if they do that, they can compete with the highest competition in 5A. The first test is against Granger today at 3 pm according to MaxPreps. Granger is put at the 23rd seed in the tournament and will have to play Timpview, the number 10th seed, at Timpview. Please go support our girls and cheer for them as they enter the State Tournament, and Good Luck T-Birds!!!
