On Thursday, (Nov. 6) Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed once again. Fans are dismayed at this news as this game has had a long development history. They started development on this game shortly after the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 in 2013. They didn’t release any information on it until 2022, when they confirmed they were working on the game. Eighteen months later, they released a trailer that quickly gathered hundreds of millions of views and announced the game would be released in 2025.
This was proven a lie as they delayed the release of the game to May 26, 2026. Sadly, this was not the last delay as the most recent delay has pushed the game’s release to November 19, 2026. What’s taking them so long? The reason for the delay was to add more “polish” to the game. This aligns with Rockstar’s track record of game delays as they always want their games to be as highly polished and finished as humanly possible.
So, will this be the last delay? There is no way to tell. We could easily not be seeing this game be released in 2027. This is not only Rockstar’s biggest game release ever, but the biggest video game ever released. With a budget estimated at $2 billion and millions upon millions of people waiting for this, it is no surprise that they want to have it as polished as possible, and so we may be seeing Grand Theft Auto 6 in a couple of years, but that may be worth it.
