On any given day, sitting in class, straining to stay awake through the drone of lectures, students’ minds tend to drift. The one subject most students find at the front of their minds is food. We understand this self-torture on a deeply personal level. We’ve also noticed that the everyday Timpview student stumbles from time to time over the decision of where to satisfy their appetites. Never fear, for today we plan to take you, the reader, on a journey around Provo to explore different eateries that will lift your spirits. This is Doodz Eatin’ Foodz.

We decided to start off with Jackson’s favorite meal: Chicken and Waffles. Through our research we found three locations\; Station 22 on Center Street, Black Bear Diner on University Parkway, and Waffle Love on State Street. We traveled around and ate all the chicken and waffles given to us and highly recommend you go out and try it yourself. But here’s what came of our adventure.

Black Bear Diner (5/10):
Black bear diner has a rural western atmosphere about it. Lots of exposed wood, including carvings of bears as the name would imply. Along with that, the classic jukebox and warm lighting gives off a comforting homey feel. This is unique to your stereotyped urbane and hipster feel of most Provo establishments.

In regards to the service, the impression made was not as welcoming. Despite the lack of people eating there and our simple one meal request, it was slow and our waitress, bless her heart, seemed flustered and distracted the whole time. I give the service a low score comparatively.

The food definitely made up for the service. The country styled fried chicken atop a waffle with a bear paw imprint complimented each other to create a soothing, semi sweet, breakfast feeling dish leaving little to be desired other than another bite.

Our overall rating would be the lowest of the three but partially due to the outstanding reviews given to the next two.

Waffle Love (7/10):
A hipster vibe that fits in with the unique feel that is directly associated with contemporary Provo, is already appealing to those of our generation. With a friendly invitation of hearts everywhere accompanied with warm colors and the smell of waffles, it’s a great place to hang out with friends.

As everything you get at Waffle Love, our chicken and waffles were amazing. Overall, this gets second place. The contemporary atmosphere was shown in the dishes as well. Sweet sauce and fry sauce were served with our waffles, surprising us and letting our imagination flow.

Although the service and the food weren’t our favorites we still had a great time with our friends. The atmosphere made up for it and made it an overall more enjoyable trip than black bear.

Station 22 (10/10):
The first thing you notice when you walk into Station 22 is the ceiling. It’s way up there! There’s a definite New Orleans feel throughout the restaurant, giving the feeling that you’ve stepped right into Princess and the Frog.

Everyone who joined us thoroughly enjoyed the amazing setup of chicken and waffles on a platter set up with varied fruits, and the rich syrup set in a tin creamer. Our server was extraordinarily polite and friendly, making small talk with us, while still leaving us to enjoy the meal.

And it tasted phenomenal! We encourage you to try it for yourselves, but man was it good! The way the waffles and chicken mixed and yet played off each other made for a very satisfying trip. Plus our server was just a bro.
