    Whats up with School Spirit?

    Whats up with School Spirit?

The school spirit this year just isn’t the same. The assemblies used to have more energy, the games were louder, the hallways were more boisterous, and the classes were more rowdy. I remember that the assemblies used to be so fun. There was so much energy as we would play games and have competitions between the different grades. What happened to all that energy?

Was it that we got a new school, or maybe that those people all graduated? Maybe it’s that we just don’t feel like it anymore. Whatever the case, we only got a couple more months of this school year so let’s make the most of it. Let’s get those crowds wild and those stadium seating steps nearly breaking as our student section cheers louder than our competition. Let’s go support our friends at ballroom, basketball, band, dance, soccer, and every other event. We have so many amazing talents at this school, why don’t we celebrate them? Whatever the case, whatever you think, whatever you do, make this school year one for you and everyone around you to remember for the rest of your school careers and lives.

I thought about this previously too, and it made me think.. how do we engage students more now? nothing has changed in the events we do to cause this lack of energy in the school. I haven’t seen anybody who cared about the assemblies we go to. what happened to the energy then?

this is probably some deep problem that only a group of sociologists can figure out, although even a student like myself can provide some insight. it could potentially be the pandemic that killed the school energy. everyone is sent home for 2 years to distance themselves from each other, people adapt to the increased time at home and pick up new things to do, like talking with friends and playing video games. the pandemic distanced the students from school. this distance made students care less about the school, events, and assemblies.

we need to find a way to immerse the students in school more to bring the school energy back. everyone uses Chromebooks so there are some possibilities to get the student’s attention back on school… all the students use social media… but I think we need events that let every student put in work, like: competitions with every student, collaborative group projects like sidewalk chalk and other potential art projects, fun games that bring every student into account. these are just a few suggestions that could bring back the positive school energy.
